How Can Friends/ Family Help in Anxiety Disorder?

Family and friends can have a great impact on the recovery from anxiety disorder. Here is a brief description of things that family can do to help to heal the heaviest of hearts and the deepest of wounds.

Here are some of the following things to be done to help patient in coping up with anxiety:

  • The most important thing nanyone can do for the depressed person is to help him or her get an appropriate diagnosis and treatment.
  • It may also mean monitoring whether the depressed person is taking medication.
  • The depressed person should be encouraged to follow the doctor's prescription.
  • Giving Emotional support to the patient by understanding the patient and giving him affection, and encouragement.
  • Invite the depressed person for walks, outings, to the movies, and other activities.
  • Encourage him to participate in some activities that once gave pleasure, such as hobbies, sports, religious or cultural activities.
  • Do not accuse the depressed person of faking illness or of laziness.
  • Avoid patient of using alcoholic products while on medication.
  • Be supportive by listening and indicate that you care for him.
